AMMAN, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Arabs expect a larger role of China in the development of the region and in pushing for peace as well, Jawad Anani, Jordan's former deputy prime minister and minister of industry and trade, has said.
In a recent interview with Xinhua, the former Jordanian official said the potential remains huge for increased cooperation between China and the Arab world, adding that China's Belt and Road Initiative is key to bring back China-Arab ties to their glory when the exchanges between the two sides were at the peak.
"Arabs and Chinese understand each other. We want to discuss cooperation, problems, as well as challenges to foster ties and develop economic cooperation," he said.
He stressed that Jordan is a good hub for Chinese companies to play a role in the process of reconstruction in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon even.
On China's role in achieving peace in the region, he said that China has been taking a positive stance in the United Nations Security Council and it has always supported pro-Palestinian issues.
"It (China) does not have a bad history with our region and it can play a role," he added.
He also stressed the need for increased cultural cooperation, adding that the Chinese and Arabs have a lot to do.
Anani will attend the Middle East Security Forum held on Nov. 27-28th by the China Institute of International Studies in Beijing. The theme of the forum is "Security in the Middle East under the New Situation: Challenges and Prospects."
